Toktok? Maybe you already heard this song that was just recently made. Even though the lyrics of the song do not match the aim of the project, it has given me an idea for a quirky but empowering title for the beneficiary students.
Projects like this are close to the club’s heart and priority of giving children a better world to live. These are the start of the small steps the club is taking to lead them to the door of a brighter future.
The Rotaract Club of Manila Zobel successfully conducted its first physically held project entitled “Toktok: Katok sa Kinabukasan” in Polangui General Comprehensive High School, Polangui, Albay last August 11, 2023. This was the second time that the club was present at the school as an event by the club was also held last December. The project was aimed at one of the Rotary’s 7 Areas of Focus; Basic Education & Literacy.
This project aimed to give 35 students who are struggling in terms of reading and writing basic school supplies. Also, 35 teachers were given basic necessities that they can use in their everyday teaching. In addition, learning materials such as books were also donated and turned over to Polangui General Comprehensive High School.
The project of the club was held side by side with the project of its mother club, Rotary Club of Hiyas ng Maynila entitled “Hiyas ng Pag-asa” wherein a talk about the Safe Spaces Act by PP Jofe Atenta-Roquero and a talk about the importance of Mental Health by TRF Chair Juvy Roaring-Mayrena. We were also joined by one of our sister clubs, the Rotaract Club of Adamson University, also conducting their project entitled “Envisage 2.”
At the project proper, HCP Carl Chester Cadizon and VP/TRF Chair Franchezka Montaos conducted a story telling session for the students, giving them life lessons in the process that can be handy in their own lives. Food and drink were also given to those who were present during the said time.
The club has received a certificate of appreciation from the school administration led by Principal IV, Lourdes R. Bigcas, PhD. This certificate serves as an additional fuel for the club to do and continue to sustain the project in the school in the foreseeable future.
The Rotaract Club of Manila Zobel would like to acknowledge and thank all 14 Rotaract Clubs that co-hosted this project. The fees paid by the Rotaract Clubs were used for acquiring the needed supplies to be given to the beneficiaries in Polangui General Comprehensive High School.
