Elevating My Service to the Community Through Rotaract

As a new Rotaractor and one of the founders of LAPIS Organization, my experience has been nothing short of exhilarating. Being able to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most has been a privilege and an honor.

LAPIS Organization, an NGO based in Camarines Sur, was established in 2008 with the aim of initiating projects that would help students in far-flung schools. Our organization has always been committed to the cause of providing education to those who are less fortunate. Over the years, we have initiated various projects such as school feeding programs, literacy drives and donation of school supplies.

We’re grateful to our Alma Mater, Siena College of Tigaon for allowing us to store a truck-load of donations from UPV Pangkat Lingkod Bayan delivered in coordination with Philippine Coast Guard for the IP Communities in camarines Sur last April 26, 2021.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic presented new challenges for us. With schools closed and students studying from home, we had to come up with new ways to continue our mission. That’s when we decided to organize community pantries filled with vegetables, rice, condiments, and other grocery items.

One of the mobile community pantries we put up in the coastal communities of Presentacion, Camarines Sur.

It wasn’t an easy task, especially with the lockdowns in place. But we were determined to help our community in any way we could. We collaborated with local farmers and small businesses to source the items for the pantries. We also partnered with other organizations and volunteers to help us distribute the goods to those who needed them the most.

Together with my LAPIS Organization during our first partnership with the Rotaract Club of Changebringers in Lip-ac Integrated School, Goa, Camarines Sur.

The response we received was overwhelming. People from all walks of life came forward to help us in our mission. We were able to reach out to hundreds of families and provide them with essential items during a time of crisis.

Being a new Rotaractor, I have had the opportunity to work with like-minded individuals who are equally passionate about making a difference in the world. The Rotaract Club of Changebringers, and our mother club the Rotary Club of Makati Dasmariñas, has been a great support system, providing us with the resources and guidance we needed to make our projects a success.

We’re pleased to turnover 300 plus complete sets of school supplies to Taytay Elementary School in partnership with Rotaract Club of Changebringers through Project ADAL (Aiding Disadvantaged Children Access to Learning)

As we move forward, we are determined to continue our mission and help as many people as we can. We believe that education is the key to a better future, and we will continue to work towards providing it to those who need it the most.

My experience as a new Rotaractor and founder of LAPIS Organization has been a fulfilling one. I have learned that with determination and the support of the community, we can make a real difference in the lives of others. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve my community and look forward to continuing our mission.
