From Chalkboards to Modules: Youth leaders in Action to Bridge Learning amid Pandemic

“A single piece of bond paper may not matter for some, but when this is gathered, it can be a powerful agent for the children’s learning continuity in the midst of the present situation.”

The pandemic has totally impacted the education sector, affecting the university employees, as well as their valued stakeholders, which are the students. As the crisis came along our way, we were compelled to redirect our path of learning to resume the students’ education amid the health crisis. Hence, we are now into distance learning, in which students can learn while they are in the four corners of their home. This is also to prevent the widespread of the contagious COVID-19.

On the other hand, as we gradually adapt to the new learning scheme, several issues have risen, be it associated with online or modular type of delivery. For the online set-up, internet connectivity has been a never-ending issue, whereas teachers voice out the lack of supplies, for the latter.

Despite these concerns, transformative leaders of the 21st century remained steadfast during the health-related havoc. Organizations led by the transformative leaders have been initiating community outreach programs to address and supplement the needs of those who seek assistance, such as the educators in public schools.

Considering the above-mentioned concern, Rotaract Club of Batangas Premier, along with its 23 host clubs, 3 co-hosts, and 6 partner organizations, successfully debuted its PROJECT Pahina to the two school beneficiaries of the said initiative last September 30, 2021.

The participants of PROJECT PAHINA handed various school supplies (glue, pencil, markers, bond papers, and ballpens), as well as face masks, and sanitizers to the teachers of Tabangao Elementary School and Balete Integrated School.  Through the collective effort of all the people behind this monumental program, beneficiaries were grateful for the provision of much-needed supplies for the modular learning of their students. Teachers personally thanked the organizers for catering to their demands.

Through the combined efforts of all the participating clubs, PROJECT PAHINA vision came to reality, that aims to help the educators of the 21st century.

Moreover, DRRE (District Rotaract Representative Elect) Joseph Ilagan emphasized that rotary clubs will also lend a hand to the schools to strengthen ties with the educators, even if we go back to the face-to-face learning modality.

On a wider perspective, PROJECT Pahina will also be hosted by other Rotaract clubs around the Philippines to further assist the needs of the educators of various schools, and eventually, help the learners for self-paced learning through given modules and hand-outs.

This program initiated by Rotaract Club of Batangas Premier gave light to the beneficiaries to sustain their goal as educators in the new normal. What keeps their passion ablaze in spite of the seemingly unending storm is their motivation to instill knowledge to the students. Additionally, leaders of different organizations are always by their side to help and to be one of them in the resumption of learning beyond the usual classroom set-up.

To wrap things up, we can all be agents of change. As clichéd as it may sound, let us all be the change that we want to see to the world because our initiative to touch the lives of whoever we help can move others to do the same thing as well.

Altogether, let us remain standing and continue to assist the community as we SERVE TO CHANGE LIVES.
