Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente–University of the Visayas Chapter Continues TRASHure for Its 6th Year

TRASHure has been a long-standing commitment of the Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente–University of the Visayas Chapter in serving the community and promoting environmental responsibility. Now in its sixth year, the project continues to reflect the club’s dedication to sustainable service and collective action.

The initiative began as a banner project during Rotary Year 2018–2019, inspired by the Rotary theme “Be the Inspiration” and led by Past President Jade Zafra. Since then, TRASHure has grown into a consistent advocacy that addresses proper waste management, especially after major community celebrations.

The primary goal of TRASHure is to promote responsible waste disposal and environmental awareness following the Sinulog Festival. The project was formally recognized by the late former Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella, who acknowledged the club’s efforts in helping keep Cebu City clean and safe while honoring its vibrant culture.

The 6th year of TRASHure was successfully conducted through a two-night clean-up drive on January 17 and 18, 2026, along some roads of Cebu City, areas heavily affected by post-festival waste. Held in line with the Sinulog celebrations, the initiative emphasized the importance of caring for the environment during large public events.

The project brought together dedicated Rotaract members, volunteers, and partners who shared a common goal of service. Volunteers worked closely with the city’s street sweepers, assisting in restoring cleanliness to the streets and highlighting the value of cooperation, respect, and shared responsibility.

Carrying the theme “Be a Trash Warrior!”, TRASHure Year 6 encouraged individuals to take part in protecting the environment through simple yet impactful actions. Though modest in scale, the initiative proved that collective effort can create meaningful change.

As TRASHure Year 6 comes to a close, the Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente–University of the Visayas Chapter remains committed to continuing this advocacy through future projects and partnerships. With every clean-up drive, the club strengthens its mission of service, sustainability, and community care, showing that even small actions can create a lasting impact.
