On November 15, 2025, Eskwelakbay – Manila Leg marked its fifth successful run at Jose Corazon de Jesus Elementary School in Tondo, Manila, igniting hope for 50 Grade 3 learners identified as non- to slow readers. Spearheaded by the Rotaract Club of Makati, the initiative delivered an intensive eight-week tutorial program grounded in the Marungko Teaching Approach—aligned with the Department of Education’s ARAL Program—strengthening foundational reading skills through structured, learner-centered methods.
The launch gathered strong support from parents, teachers, and volunteers, setting an encouraging tone for the journey ahead. Inspirational messages from Unite for Good President Eddie Galvez and New Generations Director Patrick Parungao of the Rotary Club of Makati energized families, reinforcing the importance of literacy as a lifelong tool for success.
A carefully designed syllabus guided students from mastering phonemes to constructing sentences, complemented by interactive and gamified activities that made learning both effective and enjoyable. Grouping learners by literacy level allowed volunteer tutors to provide personalized attention, ensuring that no child was left behind.
Another component of the project is the implementation of a seminar for teachers entitled “AI for Educators,” which aims to equip them with practical knowledge on integrating technology into classroom instruction and enhancing teaching strategies.
The program concluded on February 7, 2026, in a heartfelt ceremony graced by District Rotaract Representative Nico Dela Cruz and School Principal Marlnie Tugade-Dela Cruz. Sustainability efforts included the donation of 105 books through the Books Across the Seas Program, along with two bookshelves to support accessibility and organization.
Eskwelakbay proves that when communities unite, every child is given the chance to read, learn, and thrive.
