The sun had barely risen on July 26 when I arrived at Bondad Hall, Camp Lapu-Lapu in Lahug, Cebu City. The air was crisp, volunteers were already bustling about, and a palpable energy filled the room. It was Rotary Bloodletting Day—an event that goes beyond needles and blood bags. It is, and always will be, about compassion and community.

As someone who has been donating blood for years, this was not my first time. But each donation carries a renewed sense of purpose, especially when shared with the Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente (RACCF), a group I deeply admire for their unwavering commitment to service and leadership.

Blood donation may appear to be a simple act—just a few moments on a cot, a quick prick, and you’re done. But for the person on the other end, that bag of blood could mean another chance at life. For mothers in labor, patients battling chronic illness, and those injured in accidents, donated blood becomes a lifeline. That is what makes it so rewarding.

What made this day even more meaningful was seeing how the spirit of “Unite for Good,” Rotary’s theme for the 2025–2026 year, came alive in every corner of the hall. Doctors, nurses, volunteers, and donors—from different walks of life—stood shoulder to shoulder, driven by one goal: to help others.
There were quiet heroes everywhere: a first-time donor nervously sipping water while smiling for a photo, uniformed personnel arriving in unison to fulfill their civic duty, and young Rotaractors assisting elderly donors to ensure their comfort. These moments reminded me why I keep coming back.

The RACCF has long been a beacon of positive change in our community. Their presence at the event wasn’t just organizational—it was inspirational. As they usher in another Rotary year with passion and vision, I hope more changemakers are inspired to take part in efforts like this.

Because service doesn’t need to be grand to be impactful. Sometimes, it’s simply about showing up—with your heart, your time, or even just a pint of blood.
As I left the hall that afternoon, my arm wrapped in gauze but my heart full, I felt a quiet joy. In a world that often feels divided, we found unity in giving. That, to me, is the true power of Rotary.
Let’s continue shaping a future rooted in compassion, collaboration, and purpose—one drop at a time.
