Last December 17, 2023, the Rotaract Club of Metro Cebu CIT – University Chapter along with Metro Cebu and the National University of Singapore (NUS) conducted the ‘Harvest of Hope’ project at Argao, Cebu.

In collaboration with the Rotary Club of Metro Cebu and the aid of Cebu Technological University (CTU) Argao Campus, a 400 meter hose was given to the farmers of Organisadong Grupo sa mga MAg-uumang Diosnon (OGMAD) in Brgy. Alambijud, Argao. This symbolizes a crucial step towards enhancing water access and fostering community connections.

Following the donation, CTU Argao Campus offered the 30 NUS participants an engaging opportunity to delve into the world of agriculture firsthand. Participants not only gained insights into farming, hydroponics, and various agricultural programs but also had the unique experience of participating in these activities in real time.

Consequently, a tour around the farms provided the participants an opportunity for engagement with local farmers. The atmosphere was filled with camaraderie and gratitude as stories and experiences were shared accompanied by delicious local cuisine.

Rotaractors from Metro Cebu and the Rotaract Club of Metro Cebu Institute of Technology (RACMC CIT), alongside Rotarians from the mother club, CTU Danao staff, and CTU SSG, gathered with members and families of OGMAD (Organisadong Grupo sa mga Mag-uuma ng Diosnon), uniting for a meaningful cause.

As the day progressed, a short program further cemented the sense of community and appreciation for the event. Laughter and heartfelt conversations flowed freely, underscoring the shared commitment to sustainable agriculture and community development. The happiness and gratitude radiating from both the farmers and the project organizers highlighted the significance of collective action in creating positive change.

“This day was more than just a community service project; it was an opportunity to witness firsthand the impact of collective action on the lives of individuals. The seeds we plant today will bloom into a brighter tomorrow,” remarked Rtr. Hannah Mae Habel

With over 100 beneficiaries, the ‘Harvest of Hope’ project revitalized the agricultural sector by addressing water scarcity, environmental sustainability, and community development. Despite a brief rainfall, the satisfaction of the activity was palpable as participants gathered to witness the impact of their collaborative efforts. As the event concluded, it left behind more than just tangible donations; it left a lasting impression of hope and solidarity within the farming community of Argao.
