An Art for a Start

Twenty children aging 4-10 of Bayawan City experienced the first-ever Rota-Summer Art Class 2022 organized by the Rotaract Club of Tolong held at the Hayahay Square Bayawan City, Negros Oriental last March 26,2022.

The children got to immerse and dive into canvas painting, making beaded bracelets and anklets, and acrylic painting.

There’s no doubt that art is something that the kids enjoy. The artworks these kids created cultivate their skills that benefit their development as an individual. These childrens’ creativity were tested during the acrylic painting held at Hayahay Square during the Rotaract Club of Tolong’s Rota-Art Summer Class 2022.

Mr. Axiel John Sia — the Rotaract’s Past President, now Club Auditor under the supervision of Mary Grace Porlucas — Rotaract Club of Tolong President,  initiated and served as the project director of the said event and the mentorship of two artists, namely Ate Karen and Kuya Sandy. The children enjoyed exploring, experimenting, and creating different crafts in the three-hour activity.

During the Rota- Art Summer Class 2022 of the Rotaract Club of Tolong, not only did the children learn art, but they also learned how to interact with others. The promise of Rotaractors to the young generation is to continue to empower them with these efforts.

“It was fun, and I learned a lot,” said Iah — one of the participants. There’s no doubt that art is something that the kids enjoy. The artworks these kids created cultivate their skills that benefit their development as an individual. Their ability to interact with the world around them grows as they create these arts. During the Rota- Art Summer Class, not only did the children learn art, but they also learned how to interact with others. The promise of Rotaractors to the young generation is to continue to empower them with these efforts.

This youngster, who had been observing from afar was invited and had been mentored by Ate Karen, to participate and experience the Art Class, demonstrating that Rotaractors’ commitment to the welfare and development of children is unbiased.

I could recall how hesitant I was back in 2020 to be part of Rotaract when I got invited by Gela Genciagan, President of RAC Tolong before,  now ADRR- Negros Council. Still, knowing that this journey as a Rotaractor would be far from my imagination, I’m glad I didn’t refuse. The dedication, commitment, and engagement are always there. These were the pursuits that I couldn’t get rid of as a person, and I’m glad that I  can continue it with individuals of the same vision. –Rotaractors of Club of Tolong. This activity has escalated across social media and was commended by many people, uplifting the name of Rotaract, hoping that this will be a vessel for more members, not to mention the back-to-back simultaneous activities that the organization initiated.

These children, who were being mentored by Kuya Sandy in the front, had joyfully laid out their diverse and colorful patterns as they made their beaded bracelets and anklets during the Rota-Art Summer Class 2022 of the Rotary Club of Tolong.

With several inquiries after the event and the long waitlist, The Rota-Art Summer Class 2022 will come up with its second edition.
