Last August 12, the community of Malasiqui danced to the beat of the music and the call for service at the First Asian Learning Center, Malasiqui, Pangasinan in the “Zumbarrific for a Cause” conducted by the Rotaract Club of Metro Malasiqui, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Metro Malasiqui as a fund-raising activity for the pediatric patients from the Asian Hospital Charities Inc.

Observing mandated health protocols, people were all smiles as they arrived and throughout the entire event, their uniformed colorful kaleidoscope-like patterns brightened the venue. The ZinTrio, a mother-father-and-daughter tandem of the Valdez Family: Olive, Ronald, and Camille, led the participants with their energetic groove and dance moves in the zumba activity.

The money raised through the event was given to the Asian Hospital Charities Inc., who spearheads the CSR project, Childhood Cancer Medicines Accessible Program (CCMAP) in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH). The DOH is in charge of providing cancer medications while the Asian Hospital Charities Inc. will be handling the procedures needed by the patients in receiving these drugs.

Given this program, a corresponding project, “Faces of Hope” was created to provide social services to the patients and their families who will be under the CCMAP. This encompasses medical and financial assistance, along with psychosocial interventions such as provision of communication allowance, transportation, communication allowance, nutrition-intake, counseling/therapeutic services and more to empower the patient and the families whose biopsychosocial-spiritual aspect might have been affected by the fight against cancer and to support them throughout their cancer-healing path.

Johnlyn Medios, Asian Hospital Charities Inc. Social Worker, expressed their gratitude to the Rotaract and Rotary Club of Metro Malasiqui for giving support to “Faces of Hope” saying, “I hope more people in this world are as phenomenally altruistic and compassionate as you have shown to be on this day. Your help will not go unnoticed. Your involvement will not go unappreciated. Our hearts have been touched by your readiness to fill the gap where it needs to be filled. On behalf of Asian Hospital Charities, thank you for your significant help and support to our beneficiaries — children in need of pediatric services.”

Overall, the event was a success and the participants expressed their joy in having participated in a purposeful affair.
