With the aim to produce leaders and changemakers ready at any circumstances, the Rotaract Club of Old Albay District (RCOAD) spearheaded an event entitled Lend a Hand: First Aid Training which was held at Brgy. 16 – East Washington Drive, Covered Court, Legazpi City.

A return demonstration of the attendees regarding how to carry a patient

Michael Kim Paraiso, RN; a certified first-aider and the technical adviser for the Mariners’ Polytechnic Colleges Foundation (MPCF) Red Cross Youth served as the keynote speaker. A total of twenty-one Rotaractors from RCOAD and five from Rotaract Club of Legazpi West (RACLW) were present in the event.

The training lecture focused on the basics of first aid and a skills-based training. Paraiso tackled wound management first aid through varying bandaging and dressing techniques. Different carrying and transporting of injured person techniques were also discussed in the whole day event. All participants actively took part in all the exercises prepared by the speaker. The program ended with the group photo opportunity and the awarding of certificates.

In line with this month’s theme: Membership and New Club Development Month, the club wanted to focus on giving its members the opportunity to further enhance their skills and prepare them for any dire situation. This project also aimed to further know other Rotaractors and build friendships with the Rotaract Club of Legazpi West. The event was a huge success thanks to the organizers, keynote speaker, and especially the participants.

RAC Legaspi West learns First Aid Tips

As Rotaractors, we seek to optimize our ability to serve by ensuring that we are prepared and readily available to lend a hand in any situation. And so, it is with great joy that the Rotaract Club of Old Albay District invited us to join them on their first aid seminar.

The attendees demonstrated how to put a bandage on a person who was hurt in the head.

The event had just started when we arrived, even so, CP Michiko didn’t fail to give us a warm accommodation. During the lecture, keynote speaker Mr. Michael Kim Paraiso, a certified nurse, spoke on the necessity of knowing how to administer first aid. We learned how and when to perform first aid and received tips on how to keep an injured person calm during the procedure. At noon, we enjoyed our lunch and fellowship with fellow Rotaractors from RACOAD, especially with CP Michiko and Rtr. Jeff’s friendly company. Kuya Jeff’s witty persona helped us get over our shyness.

The attendees listened to the lecturer on how to perform basic CPR.

Finally, in the last part of the event, we performed basic dressing and bandaging techniques at first hand following Mr. Paraiso’s directions. We learned how to respond to a variety of wounds and injuries. Mr. Paraiso also demonstrated how to carry and transport an injured person using various approaches. A number of participants have tried doing them as well. The program ended as CP Michiko gave her closing remarks, giving thanks to everyone who participated, and the awarding of certificate to the speaker.

We have learned a lot from the activity, and met new friends as well. Indeed, the event was a success and we are looking forward to more projects, events, and activities with RACOAD.
