In Pagsanjan, a simple yet powerful transformation is taking place. One that begins not with grand speeches, but with small, meaningful actions led by the youth.
The initiative, ECO-PAGSANJAN: Nurturing a Greener Tomorrow, stands as a testament to what collaboration can achieve when purpose meets passion. Spearheaded by the Rotaract Club of Sta. Cruz Pioneer in partnership with the Pagsanjan Arkong Bato Lions Club, the project goes beyond environmental advocacy—it plants the seeds of responsibility in the minds of young learners.
At the heart of the program are 129 students from Grades 4 to 6, who became eager participants in a series of interactive learning sessions. Here, environmental awareness was not merely discussed—it was demonstrated. Students learned the importance of proper waste segregation, gaining practical knowledge on how to correctly sort biodegradable, recyclable, and residual waste—simple acts that, when practiced consistently, can significantly reduce pollution.

But the initiative did not stop at environmental education. Recognizing the close link between health and sustainability, the program also emphasized proper handwashing techniques. With careful guidance, students were taught how hygiene practices can prevent the spread of diseases—an essential lesson in building healthier communities.
To ensure these lessons translate into daily habits, the organizers introduced tangible improvements within the school. A water filter was installed to provide safe and clean drinking water, while clearly labeled signages for waste segregation and handwashing guidelines were placed in strategic areas. A handwashing station, complete with a dispenser and liquid soap, was also provided. The washing area itself was repainted, transforming it into a cleaner and more inviting space for the students.

Through these combined efforts, ECO-PAGSANJAN becomes more than a project—it becomes an experience that empowers young individuals to take ownership of their environment and well-being.
As these children carry their newfound knowledge beyond the classroom, they become stewards of change in their own right. And in their small but consistent actions lies the promise of a cleaner, safer, and greener tomorrow.
