The Rotaract Club of Malate has softly launched Zoom Zymphony Concert Series as part of its Nocturne: RY-end Fellowship last June and as fully fledged monthly events thereafter. The events serve as a stark statement that the COVID-19 predicament cannot kill the spirit of Filipino resilience and ingenuity. Zoom Zymphony which was the brainchild of Director Nats Fernandez as means for recruitment and fellowship has blossomed into a significant monthly affair attended by the members’ relatives, friends, co-workers, and even Rotaractors from other districts and countries. During these events, Rotaractors have also shown their musicality and stepped onto the virtual stage to belt out tunes and go toe-to-toe with the esteemed artists in the name of celebrating not just the music itself but also the industry put on the ropes by the lockdown conundrum that ails our country.
Most recently, Zoom Zymphony celebrated the hits of September’s featured artist and multi-generational talent Taylor Swift through the performances of RAC Malate’s Dir. Pia Pasay, Silent Stereo, and RAC SADP’s IPP Jean Tayag. The event was hosted by RAC Malate’s Assistant Director Christabell Camartin and volunteer Jessa Lucena and followed by an “afterparty” led by Director Nats, where the attendees were treated to “by request” and impromptu performances from Director Nats and the other talented Rotaractors in attendance. Truly the event was a genuine effort to put forth some warmth in a world now enveloped in distance, RAC Malate’s Zoom Zymphony strives to bridge the gaps of social distancing, one tune at a time.
