Volunteering will always have a place in my heart. However, the height of that passion was reached on the sunny morning of December 17, 2023, thanks to the Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente-University of San Carlos. That day was life-changing for me since I had the opportunity to help rescued dogs and cats at the Mayari Animal Rescue Organization in Sapangdaku Guadalupe.
As a fur parent myself-It is no secret that dogs and cats make me happy. That day’s experience gave me a better understanding of what it’s like to manage an animal shelter. When we arrived at the Mayari Animal Rescue in Sapangdaku Guadalupe I felt nothing but joy and excitement. However, those feelings were first felt with discomfort, as the most difficult part was going up to MARO– wherein it was steep and I had to make sure I helped the other volunteers in taking turns carrying the sack of dog food, and other rescue supplies. Even though I was hot on the calves, I persevered and the co-owner Sir Dan luckily came to our rescue and loaded the sacks of dog food onto his motorcycle.
Before entering the location, Sir Dan told us about how MARO was established. Listening to it made me realize that if you love something or someone, you will do whatever it takes to achieve it, even if faced with circumstances. The moment we entered, I couldn’t help but tear up after being greeted by dogs and cats. In the morning we walked and played with the dogs, and in the afternoon we helped the staff take photos of the dogs and cats who were up for adoption. Moreover, the event was also a great way to socialize and get to know other volunteers with whom I share the same passion and love for animals.
As I write and recall what had transpired that day, it ended with nothing but joy, laughter, and a bond that I will cherish forever. Indeed, Pasko Para Kay Bruno had a pawsitive impact on my life. It gave me hope—and I couldn’t ask for more.
