Be The Service Others Need

Everyone alive has its own purpose, we grow up with a nature of helping others. Service above self is having to serve people first before you do things for yourself. Growing up, we are trained to put others first before Ourselves. My parents make sure to widen our vision and views about society and see both versions of the community. Putting people first, having to serve and do our purpose is not just a fulfillment to us but to fulfill the gap between people and reach the heart of every struggling individuals and show them that no matter how the world can be tough for them and how unfair society when it comes to getting opportunities, there’s always someone who has the willingness to help and make them feel that in this battle, they are not alone. Having to serve people first is a privilege and opportunity to be the change, no matter how big or small your effort is, it is impactful. Every small particle when combined can form a big bang that could change not only the present but also shape the future.

Senior Moments, A Feeding Program at Gasa Sa Gugma Cebu City,  an initiative to give joy to our Seniors

I remember going home very late at night having 40 pesos left in my pocket and one last piece of bread hoping to ease my hungry stomach while waiting for the Public Utility Bus to start when a mother comes to the driver and ask for a free ride but the driver refuse because like them he is struggling too, I saw the hopeless and exhausted emotions in her eyes, I told her “sakay na te” Paid for her fare setting aside the question in my mind on how would I go home with the last 10 pesos left in my pocket, I gave the bread to the crying child, she thank me for helping her and she shared her story, it was sad but it enlighten me the bias between people who doesn’t share the same standing and privilege in life. Walking in the small alley to our village I realize that even the smallest thing can make the biggest impact in someone’s life and everyone has the power to change the life of others.

Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente – University of San Carlos Mangrove Planting and Coastal Clean-up Drive held at South Poblacion, Naga City, Cebu alongside several driven Rotaract volunteers across the city

I was able to go home safely, no money for tomorrow but gained a purpose to live and make tomorrow happen, not only for me but for other people. After all, we don’t live just to live, we live to serve others and with Rotary we can serve with the best of our ability with the people who share the same values and willingness to serve the community. Rotary showed me that, with the proper vision we can make every mission, a mission for change and progress.
