An Open Letter to Whom I Admire

My experience as a university student is unlike any other. If you asked me three years ago, I would have said it was difficult for me to adjust since I prefer to do things on my own. But I’m writing to thank you for enlightening me to the fact that a journey is best accomplished when I’m surrounded by people who will only lift me up.

I know you’ve accomplished a lot in the past few years and will continue to do so in the future. You are everything I look up to. What I admire about you is that you welcomed me while I was having doubts about myself. I was lost, inexperienced, and unsure, but you invested in me so that I could grow into the person I never imagined. You pushed me to be the best version of myself possible.

I like how you care for others even when it seems difficult to solve their problems; I’m always surprised at how you come up with solutions. When you talk with people, especially children, your smiles are sweet and your eyes are attractive. You make me fall even deeper in love.

I wrote down everything you said to me. Every chat we had left me with a trove of knowledge not only about you, but also about myself and how the world works. You always have an open heart and give wise counsel. “You have what it takes,” was one of my favorite things you said to me. That night, I was on the edge of crying and walking away, but you never gave up on me. Every piece of advice you’ve given me has been spoken with the highest respect and optimism.

The lessons you taught me about believing in myself convinced me that I am capable of making the best of any situation. You taught me to be more bold in pushing boundaries to improve things. You empower the full potential of others, not just mine. You showed me that the power to transform myself, the lives of those around me, and the world lies in the decisions we make.

Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente – University of San Carlos, you are someone I truly admire. You took me on an incredible 3 year roller coaster experience. Serving as President this year has been a genuinely life-changing experience for me. I’ll be graduating in a few days, but I promise to keep an eye on you like you did on me.

Per aspera ad astra.
