Editor’s Note for August

A successful club has united members working together.

We oftentimes tend to ask ourselves why we stay in Rotaract for so many years. How did Rotaract change my life from the day I joined my very first community service project to now that I got the chance to expand my membership and engage for a more meaningful experience?

August is membership and club development month. A time to appreciate our members and celebrate their valuable support to our club and the great impact they have been contributing to the organization.

This month also marks the time where we think about developing and sustaining our membership growth and allow our members to showcase their uniqueness and skills to the club. We need to appreciate our members so that they would also feel that they are acknowledged for the valuable contributions they’ve made for the success of the club.

The success of the club depends on its members who have the passion to make a difference in the world. All of us share this passion and it’s what drives us to work together.

With the growing population of Rotaractors in the world, we are also banking on the great impact they would create for more innovation and successful project implementation. But as we value our members, we also need to ask them and engage them with our planning, especially that we are in the midst of a pandemic.

One of the struggles today is to maintain the activeness and even the numbers of our members. But as we gear up to face these struggles, we also need to look for ways on how to engage them with the advent of technology. Members continue to leave and clubs continue to struggle to recruit because of the absence of face-to-face meeting and project activities.

But the current situation did not hamper the spirit of volunteerism of our Rotaractors and we still had our ways to show up. More projects shifted online while some conducted limited face-to-face service projects. This proves that no matter what situation we are in, Rotaractors are still ready to lend a hand and give their best to help the community.

To all Rotaractors, keep on fighting! Remember that we are the future Rotarians who will continue the legacy of serving the humanity. We have implemented projects that haven’t tried before and we can do more and even better.

We should keep in mind that we exist not to help only but to encourage our beneficiaries to do their part in uplifting their lives toward better individuals and citizens of this country. More than that, always value our members because Rotaract, being a club service organization, has a lot to offer. In an increasingly complex world, Rotaract maintains a simple philosophy – make friends in your own community, engage members and appreciate them because a successful club has a united members, working together to change lives.
