Raising Awareness on Postpartum Depression and Reproductive Care to Expecting Moms

Self-care is fundamental for everyone, especially for expectant moms, who care for themselves and for their babies. But as the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child, and so the Rotaract Club of San Jose Del Monte rightfully embraced its duty to its community.

Thirty expectant moms actively listening to Dr. Gacias’s discussion on essential medications during pregnancy.

Last February 9, the club, led by President Ralph Santiago and Project Chair Iby Castro, successfully carried out “Care to Prepare: Empowering Moms Everywhere,” a prenatal and mental health seminar for 30 expectant moms in Barangay Kaypian. Obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Carla Denisse Gacias shared her knowledge and expertise on reproductive health, proper nutrition, family planning, and postpartum mental health, highlighting the significance of personal care for overall well-being during and after pregnancy. After the insightful talk, the moms received kits that contained hygiene products for them and their babies.

The club shares the success of this project with everyone who made this initiative possible, including the Rotary Club of San Jose Del Monte, headed by President Apolonia Illio; the City Health Office, led by Dr. Roselle T. Tolentino; and Nurse Carolina Hernandez, who applauded the event for being the first local seminar to tackle mental health support for moms.

This project was the first of its kind for the club but will definitely not be the last. Apart from imparting knowledge to the mothers, this project empowered them in their motherhood by helping them feel that they are not alone in their journey—that they have a community that cares for them and their families.
