Education opens doors—even in places where walls surround. This belief guided the Rotaract Club of San Pedro East in implementing the Balik Aral, Balik Dangal Project on October 18, 2025, at the New Bilibid Prison Medium Security Compound.
The project aimed to support around 350 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) Junior High School learners enrolled in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) by providing educational materials, hygiene kits, snacks, and classroom resources. More than addressing basic needs, the initiative sought to restore dignity, foster hope, and promote inclusive education among learners who continue to pursue knowledge despite their circumstances.

Balik Aral, Balik Dangal was led by the Rotaract Club of San Pedro East in partnership with the Rotary Club of San Pedro Magic, Rotary Club of Paco Manila, and the Rotaract Clubs of Calumpit, Cebu South, and Zamboanga City West, together with Konsehal Joaquin Domagoso and Omorfia by YourLifestyle. The project was further strengthened through the support of M-PRO Industrial Construction Corporation, the Rotaract Clubs of Pasig Sunrise and Puerto Princesa, and minor co-host clubs: Dipolog City, Makati West, Manila, and Tiaong – Transforming New Gen.

Through collaborative service, monoblock chairs were turned over for classroom use, hygiene kits were distributed, and learners participated in engagement activities designed to encourage resilience and self-worth. These simple acts of care became powerful reminders that peacebuilding begins with compassion, understanding, and access to opportunities.

As Rotaractors, we believe that education is a pathway to peace. By investing in learners and affirming their humanity, we help prevent cycles of conflict and exclusion. The smiles exchanged, stories shared, and hands extended during this project reflected Rotary’s mission of Doing Good in the World.

Balik Aral, Balik Dangal stands as a testament to what collective action can achieve—proving that when communities come together in service, hope is restored, dignity is reclaimed, and lasting peace becomes possible.
