“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” a quote from Nelson Mandela has rung true for the Rotaractors from the Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente – University of San Carlos (RACCF-USC) when they attended their third General Membership Meeting (GMM) last September 26, 2025 through Google Meet.
In celebration of the Basic Education and Literacy month, RACCF-USC has conducted a monthly gathering with the theme, Literacy as Leadership: Empowering Communities through Knowledge. The speaker invited has two decades spent in education under his belt and aimed to promote knowledge and literacy’s critical role in empowerment. He is none other than Mr. Chester Miparanum, a faculty member at the University of San Carlos. Education is something Mr. Miparanum holds dear to his heart as he previously served as a school principal, an assistant department chair and now as a Coordinator for the Human Resource Cluster.

Mr. Miparanum had bridged the students in articulating the definition of literacy as an ornament for leadership. He emphasized that leadership rooted in information, compassion, and commitment empowers individuals to serve with purpose. With such perception, it reminded them how communities thrive with knowledge. He then detailed strategies that demonstrate the impact of literacy. This made the Rotaractors all the more embrace the value of education.
The members’ realizations were not left untouched as the officers presented the club’s updates, and different initiatives they could join. These plans covered district-wide programs and gave them a glimpse into the club’s flagship project, the “12 Days of Christmas.” Specifically, four projects under it were featured. These were Pasko para kay Bella at Bruno, BaLIK-HAndog, Islandspiration and UPGRADE: Techtalks. In real time, these servant leaders had their cogwheels turning, analyzing how their own knowledge and skills can contribute to the presented plans.

The GMM was put to a close after much reflection was being shared. Truly, we can develop as one community and witness great sustainable progress if we believe in the power of knowledge and the impact of leadership. The unity of both is nothing but a sure guarantee of lasting impact!
