Every July 1 marks a celebration for Rotaractors as they welcome the new Rotary Year for what lies ahead – in the name of service. This Rotary Year’s theme: “Create Hope in the World” is a beam of hope to all Rotaractors as it encourages each and every one to create and restore hope as a goal through kickstarting it with a productive event with the kids entitled Project B.A.T.A (Building Advocacy Towards A Brighter Tomorrow), held last July 1, 2023 at Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.
The said event was a collaboration event amongst the nine Rotaract Clubs of the Cebu Council present with the Rotaract Club of Cebu as the main proponent. It was attended by numerous Rotaractors and the children of Barangay Basak. The Cebu Council gathered with the kids through fun-filled games and yummy treats to delight their morning.
The kids had a blast playing games and getting their goodies where each club provided different goodies like doughnuts, ice cream, juice, candies, slippers, school supplies, and from our club which is popcorn. There was no specific program for the kids because it was just a short 2-hour gathering of 100 kids. With the program starting at 10AM with a brief introduction and opening remarks, followed by a short game, and the rest of the time was free time for the kids to go around each club’s booth, to talk and interact with the Rotaract club members, and to interact and play with each other.
. Taking time to play and enjoy eating is important for kids. It makes them happy and helps them grow up healthy. But there’s more than just fun and food. Kids also have a right to a good education and other resources they need in this economy. This goes for more and more kids in the Philippines.
We need to make sure that these kinds of opportunities reach more kids. They should have the freedom to choose and not feel too much pressure. Kids should be able to play and try new things or do what they love. This will help them move towards a better future.
The event went well, just like others before it. Things are looking bright because Rotaract clubs work hard to bring more hope to both young and old communities. We’re hopeful that there will be even better things in the future. Even though it might seem small, it can make a big difference in someone’s life.
