In celebration of Rotary International’s “Basic Education and Literacy Month” and in support to the Department of Education’s “No student will be left behind” last September, the Rotaract Club of Makati (RAC Makati) together with its partner organizations Empowered Association of Systematic Youth โ Pulido (EASY-P), launched Project ๐๐๐ธ๐๐ฒ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฌ with the theme “๐ฎ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ฒ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ป๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ด๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ฒ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐”. The project is under one of Rotaryโs seven areas of focus; Basic Education & Literacy.ย
This project aims to provide a free reading tutorial program for five consecutive Saturdays to pupils of San Gabriel I Elementary Schools (SG1ES) who were identified as struggling readers and non-readers. Learning materials as well as the learning modules and the sessions were facilitated by volunteers who are Education students and licensed professional teachers. RAC Makati also did this project last 2019 and won an award as the Most Outstanding Community Service Project and Most Outstanding Project for Supporting Education at the District Conference and Awards Night last 2020.
The club also conducted donation of tables and chairs to the teachers of San Gabriel 1, Elementary School. This was made possible because of our donor, Asian Sourcing Link Philippines Inc.
Last October 1, Rotaractors from different clubs together with EASY-P and MYC volunteers gathered at San Gabriel 1 Elementary School, General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite to join the opening of the Project ๐๐๐ธ๐๐ฒ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฌ. Despite the heavy rain on October 29, finally after four consecutive weeks of tutoring and mentoring, EskweLAKBAY student-participants from San Gabriel I Elementary School, together with their guardians attend the most anticipated recognition day.
Gracing the event were DRR Maria Teddielyn Bernadette Lebrias of District 3830 and SK Federation President Shane Baguio who gave a wonderful message to the students and parents. The said event was indeed a huge success! Grateful to all of the dedicated volunteers, hardworking students, guardians, teachers, and other SGIES staff. This event would not be possible without the initiative, hard work, and perseverance of partner organization, Empowered Association of Systematic Youth โ Pulido (EASY-P)
The team is looking forward to the next project which will help the sustainability of the Project ๐๐๐ธ๐๐ฒ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฌ.
