Rotaract Club of Malate, sponsored by Rotary Club of Bagumbayan – Manila under District 3810, was chartered on August 13, 1998. During its early years, the club was exclusive to academic scholars of the Japan-based Aichi Foundation. However, it has since opened its doors to volunteers from different backgrounds. Since its inception, RAC Malate has continuously excelled through notable projects like its “Give Love on Christmas Day” project, “Brigada Eskwela,” and “Assistance from a Distance” among others. This is why the club has won numerous district awards capped by an “Overall Most Outstanding Rotaract Club” award during the term of Past President Arita Reyes. RAC Malate has also been an active supporter of its district, producing several district officers along with two District Rotaract Representatives: PDRR Garry De Castro and PDRR Clarice San Jose.
RAC Malate prides itself on the values of collective accountability, teamwork, personal integrity, and innovativeness in its service, that is why for the Life-Changing term, RAC Malate and its 26 members started a radical club revamp aimed at setting the stage for the next set of RAC Malate leaders by empowering them to the unlimited possibilities within Rotaract. One of the implementations is restructuring from a traditional Rotaract setup to a four-level organization structure without committees or avenues. Board members, directors, and assistant directors are instead given an “open” position and the freedom to move within any committee, avenue, or project as guided by the executive board. This allows officers and members to pursue their passions in pioneering club initiatives. This move has led to projects such as “RAC Malate Clubhouse,” “Zoom Zymphony Concert Series,” “Rotaract Malate Onboarding,” and a 400% increase in club-initiated activities.
For the next Rotary Year, Rotaract Club of Malate’s future continues to shine bright as incoming President Sophia Pasay is set to take the reins in building on the club’s initiatives, handling the first year of Elevate Rotaract, and taking the club to greater heights in continuing its 23-year legacy.
