LIBREry On Wheels

There is no better companion than a good book. In a world where entertainment is right in our hands, you may ask yourself what’s the point of reading? In today’s fast-paced world, reading is becoming a dying habit because there are faster alternatives to consume on social media. Books and stories are undeniable parts of our learning culture and reading is a very good habit that one needs to develop in life, which helps in the improvement of speaking and writing skills. Once you start reading, you experience a whole new world.

Pres. Vincent conducts storytelling to the kids

The World Vision Development Foundation and the Department of Education believe that no Filipino should be left behind in terms of reading and comprehension, especially now. Thus, the Department of Education launched the Brigada Basa Program that aims to improve the reading and comprehension skills of Filipino youngsters who can read. It is an off-shot of Brigada Eskwela, a statewide school maintenance initiative spearheaded by the Department of Education and carried out with the aid of many sectors and individuals who volunteer to help with repairs and cleanliness. In relation to this, the Rotaract Club of Lucena South and SK Federation Lucena City, launched a project named LIBREry On Wheels (Mobile Library).

Last October 7, 2021, Changemaker President Vincent Panopio, showcase his passion thru storytelling at Brgy. Domoit Lucena City. Children instinctively love the idea of storytelling as they are introduced to wonderful ideas, places, and creatures they haven’t before encountered. Reading to a child can increase their willingness to express themselves and communicate their thoughts and feelings.  After that, the children are allowed to get one (1) book of their choice in our LIBREry on Wheels. The books we brought were acknowledged with heartfelt gratitude.

The LIBREry On Wheels had their second stop-over at Brgy. Mayao Parada last October 29, 2021. President Vincent Panopio taught the kids how to praise and worship the Lord. This kind of activity will encourage spiritual development in the children. After that, one of the SK conducted storytelling and learned the moral of the story. Lastly, the Rotaractors together with the Sangguniang Kabataan distributed snacks for everyone. The generosity became more focused on what the beneficiaries truly wanted to receive. The team witnessed the smiles on the faces of the children. Yes, it takes the spirit of sharing and giving to even greater heights with more ways to make kids still happy given the fact that we’re still experiencing the Pandemic. After all, this will always be alive with true Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors serving and sharing above themselves.

Overall, as the club shares the generosity to the children, the team can’t imagine the joy that children received as shown from their innocent faces. Now that the LIBREry On Wheels is rolling, may we all be able to keep it going.
