Honoring Our Night Watch: Project SEKYU Year 7 by Rotaract Club of Lucena South

On June 7, 2025, the Rotaract Club of Lucena South successfully conducted Project SEKYU Year 7, an annual outreach initiative dedicated to recognizing and appreciating the dedication of night shift security guards and barangay tanods across Lucena City.

Volunteers personally hand over care kits and lugaw to night watch personnel in appreciation of their service.

Now on its seventh year, Project SEKYU has become a meaningful tradition for the club—one that highlights the invaluable service of the individuals who work through the night to keep communities safe. While many residents are asleep, these security personnel remain vigilant in their posts, guarding establishments, patrolling neighborhoods, and ensuring peace and order throughout the city. Despite the importance of their role, their efforts often go unnoticed. Through this initiative, the Rotaract Club of Lucena South aims to give back and show gratitude to these quiet guardians of the night.

During the outreach, Rotaract volunteers visited different locations around the city to personally distribute care kits to more than 100 night shift personnel. Each kit contained essential items intended to provide comfort and support during their long hours of duty. In addition, volunteers served warm bowls of lugaw, offering a simple yet heartfelt meal to the guards and tanods as they continued their watch. The interaction between the Rotaractors and the beneficiaries created moments of connection and appreciation, reminding everyone involved of the importance of community solidarity.

Project SEKYU continues to embody the spirit of service and compassion that defines Rotaract. What began years ago as a simple gesture of appreciation has grown into a sustained effort that reaches more individuals each year.

This year’s successful implementation was made possible through the generous support of Kons. Patrick Nadera and New Jiandra Enterprises, whose contributions helped bring the project to life.

Through Project SEKYU, the Rotaract Club of Lucena South reaffirms its commitment to uplifting the community—especially those who quietly safeguard the city while the rest of it sleeps.
