Busog Lusog Year 3: Rotaract Joins Rotary in Back-to-back Feeding and Empowerment Sessions for the Badjao Community

The Rotaract Club of Lucena South once again lent its support to the Rotary Club of Lucena South for Busog Lusog Year 3, a continuing initiative aimed at nourishing and empowering the Badjao community in Barangay Dalahican, Lucena City. Held on two consecutive Saturdays—June 29 (Session 2) and July 5 (Session 3), the sessions brought together volunteers, community partners, and youth leaders to serve with purpose and compassion.

This year’s sessions highlight that feeding is just the beginning—what follows is a deeper investment in the children’s health, values, and role in their community.

Rotary and Rotaract volunteers share a moment with children from the Badjao community during the feeding session, strengthening bonds of trust and care. 💙

In partnership with Don Orione Foundation, Inc., 163 undernourished Badjao children were identified through BMI assessments. They received MANAPAC fortified rice meals with chicken, supporting their growth and overall wellness.

But the session went beyond meals. To instill values and discipline, Rotary Treasurer Darwin led the children in learning how to properly fall in line, listen attentively, and show respect to one another.

Basic hygiene was also introduced—children were taught to wash hands before eating and segregate their leftovers afterward, encouraging a habit of cleanliness and environmental responsibility.

To further support sanitation efforts in the community, cleaning tools such as rakes and shovels were distributed—empowering residents to take part in maintaining their shared space.npower and logistical support, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable service and youth-led engagement.

Together, we continue to uphold the essence of “Busog Lusog”—not just nourishing bodies, but nurturing character, community, and compassion.

The third session built upon the momentum of the previous week. With the help of Rotaract and Rotary volunteers, the same group of children received another round of nutritious meals, reinforcing healthy eating habits and structured program discipline.

Rotaract members assisted in logistics, crowd control, and child engagement—ensuring that the initiative maintained its rhythm, warmth, and structure. The continued presence of young leaders also helped cultivate consistency and trust in the community.

Rotaract volunteers help prepare and organize meals before distribution, working behind the scenes to keep the program running smoothly.

The success of Busog Lusog Year 3’s Sessions 2 and 3 lies in the collaboration between Rotary, Rotaract, and community partners. It reflects our shared mission: to not only feed but also educate, empower, and uplift.

As the program continues, so does the commitment to building a community where children are not only full—but valued, guided, and hopeful.
