The sun had barely risen on July 26th when I arrived at Bondad Hall, Camp Lapu-Lapu in Lahug, Cebu City. The air was crisp, volunteers were already bustling about, and a palpable energy filled the room. It was Rotary Bloodletting Day—an event that goes beyond needles and blood bags. It was, and always will be, about compassion and community.

As someone who has been donating blood for years, this was not my first time. But each donation carries with it a renewed sense of purpose. This time, I was proud to be joined and supported by the Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente—a group I deeply admire for their unwavering commitment to service and leadership.

Blood donation may appear as a simple act—just a few moments on a cot, a quick prick, and you’re done. But for the person on the other end, that bag of blood could mean another shot at life. For mothers in labor, for patients battling chronic illness, for those injured in accidents—our donated blood becomes their lifeline. That is a humbling thought.

What made this day even more meaningful was seeing how the spirit of “Unite for Good,” Rotary’s theme for the 2025–2026 year, came alive in every corner of the hall. Doctors, nurses, volunteers, and donors—different people from different walks of life—stood shoulder to shoulder, all driven by one goal: to help others.
There were quiet heroes everywhere. A first-time donor nervously sipping water while smiling for a photo. A group of uniformed personnel arriving in unison to donate as part of their civic duty. Young Rotaractors assisting elderly donors and ensuring comfort throughout the process. These moments reminded me why I keep coming back—why this act, no matter how routine it may seem, is worth doing again and again.

The Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente has long been a beacon of positive change in our community. Their presence at the event wasn’t just organizational—it was inspirational. As they usher in another Rotary year with passion and vision, I hope more changemakers are moved to take part in efforts like this. Because service doesn’t need to be grand to be impactful. Sometimes, it’s simply about showing up—with your heart, your time, or even just a pint of your blood.

As I left the hall that afternoon, my arm wrapped in gauze and my heart full, I couldn’t help but feel a quiet joy. In a world that often feels divided, we found unity in giving. That, to me, is the real power of Rotary—and the reason I’ll keep donating for as long as I’m able.
Let’s continue to shape a future rooted in compassion, collaboration, and purpose. One drop at a time.
