Grenadiers Empower Youth on World Rotaract Week

As we observed the World Rotaract Week last March 7-13, 2022, the Rotaract Club of Granada joined in the celebration by helping a local school in promoting health and sanitation for its community.

In partnership with Emiliano Lizares National High School of Barangay Granada, Bacolod City, the Rotaract Club of Granada launched its latest project series, the Empower.Ed Project, which aims to support local schools in advocating its core values through the creation and publication of public materials.

As the school gears up for a new semester, the esteemed school faculty focus on promoting good health and proper sanitation amongst their students. This is even more imperative, as the possible reintroduction of face-to-face classes draws near. Maintaining one’s well-being and hygiene is still of utmost importance, especially as we transition into this new normal. Thus, as the school’s partner in this endeavor, RAC Granada took initiative.

Through creativity, expertise, and skills, the Rotaractors of RAC Granada designed a six-panel comic strip, depicting the various health and sanitation practices observed by the school and supported by the Department of Education.

The material is a visual reemphasis of the proper handwashing technique, something that we have all been taught at the height of the pandemic, and one that we should continue to practice long after it. After all, by taking the time to wash our hands regularly, we also keep ourselves all the cleaner and more protected. Depicted also is the promotion of taking one’s bi-annual deworming pill, as mandated and organized by the Department of Health. Also included is the observation on proper menstrual hygiene for the ladies, and the importance of the correct disposal of trash and other sanitary waste. Lastly, it strengthens the common practice to drink water regularly. We all know, we should drink at least eight glasses of water a day; a practice only further prioritized due to the recent sweltering heat.

With the approval of the school administration, the materials were printed as tarpaulins to be displayed around the campus and were officially unveiled on March 9, 2022, attended by the officers of the Rotaract Club of Granada and the faculty of Emiliano Lizares National High School. No doubt these public materials will serve their purpose in motivating the school’s bright students to always look after their health!

On World Rotaract Week, we celebrate what it means to be a Rotaractor. We do so by exemplifying it in the actions we make; by helping those who need it most, and by promoting good values and principles within ourselves and our communities. Now, when one student at this school washes their hands thoroughly, or when another drinks water regularly, the Rotaractors at RAC Granada would always be pleased to know that they have helped in keeping the lives of these children clean, safe, and fit.
