“Maski unsa man kakusog ang mga bagyo, kanunay ang atong pagserbisyo.” (“No matter how strong the storms we will be facing, our service to the people will always be constant.”)
In response to the recent Super Typhoon “Odette” which made its landfall in the regions of Northeastern Mindanao, the Rotaract Club of Central San Francisco coordinated “Project RAC: Responsive Action for Calamity” last December 26, 2021, which consisted of various sub-projects namely “Project INSPIRE: Innovative Solutions Protecting our Health” and “Water of Hope.”
RACCSF has successfully provided 20 boxes of face masks to the residents of a remote barangay in Surigao City, Brgy. Alang-Alang, and distributed 120 pieces of 5-20 liters of potable water to families and frontliners. The funds for the projects were from generous monetary donations and the club’s fundraiser initiative, “Caroling for a Cause.”
Moreover, RACCSF along with its mother club, Rotary Club of Central San Francisco, handed out 200 pieces of relief goods to Brgy. Alang-Alang in fulfillment of their project, “Project MEDICS: Massive Emergency Response for Disaster and Calamities.”
“Daghang salamat sa inyong paghigugma namo. Merry Christmas!” (“Thank you for the love. Merry Christmas!”) said Nanay Inday, a resident of the aforementioned barangay. She is just one of the many victims of the devastating calamity and to see her be joyous of the extended help was exhilarating.
Adversities will always be present, hence we should all aspire to be willing to serve, to be giving, and to be someone’s silver lining during challenging times like these. These acts of kindness will leave a lasting positive note and will hopefully inspire more people and other organizations to extend their help.
Let’s continue to utilize the gift of service for the restoration of the devastated areas so that they can finally experience what the Surigaonons call “ang kalinaw pagkahuman sa bagyo (the calm after the storm).
