RAC Dumaguete raises fund for victims of human trafficking

The Young Dreamers Project was initiated in partnership with FORGE Inc. (Fellowship for Organizing Endeavors) to help a community of organized traffic victims here in Dumaguete City. The project was launched on October 25 and it’s still an ongoing project that will run until December.

Human trafficking is the world’s fastest-growing unjust industry, and Dumaguete City is not exempt to that. Like many rural areas in the Philippines, wherever there’s poverty, lack of education, or political instability, vulnerable people are always at risk. Exploiters take advantage of the broken environment the victims are in and lure them with a promise of a better life. We, at Rotaract Dumaguete, in partnership with FORGE Inc. are determined to help spread awareness of this unjustified trade and enslavement practice and hopefully see a decrease in the numbers of victims of such abuse in our communities.

We have chosen the Young Dreamers – they are trafficked children below 18 years old, organized and capacitated so they can regain their self-worth and dignity and become socially responsible individuals again, as our beneficiary for this project. This donation drive aims to provide them with some of their basic needs especially during these trying times. The COVID-19 pandemic has created a huge conflict in our society that has made these people resort to such unjust practice of labor just to get by every day. And we need all the help we could get to support them. May we be someone’s sunshine when their skies are grey.
