In observance of National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) this July, the Rotaract Club of Lucena South took part in a citywide Coastal Clean-Up organized by the Lucena City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (LDRRMC). The activity was held early Saturday morning at Barangay Talao-Talao, gathering volunteers from government offices, civic groups, and youth organizations.

Rotaractors work together in collecting plastic waste and debris along the shoreline, demonstrating the power of youth volunteerism in protecting the marine environment.

With this year’s NDRM theme, “KUMIKILOS: Kayang Umaksyon ng Mamamayan na Isabuhay ang  Kahandaan ng Bawat Isa,” the event emphasized the role of citizen action in disaster preparedness and environmental protection. Participants cleaned the coastal areas, collecting plastics, discarded materials, and other waste that contribute to marine pollution.

Volunteers coordinate with local workers to properly collect and load sacks of gathered waste, ensuring responsible disposal after the coastal clean-up activity. 🚛♻️

The clean-up served both as a proactive environmental initiative and a community-driven effort to reduce disaster risks brought about by climate change and coastal degradation. It also fostered collaboration among sectors, reinforcing the city’s commitment to safety, sustainability, and resilience.

Participants carefully remove seaweed and entangled debris from the coast, helping restore the cleanliness of Lucena’s shoreline while promoting disaster risk reduction through environmental action.

The Rotaract Club of Lucena South expressed its support for the initiative and reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and community development through continued participation in similar programs.
