On June 22, 2025, the Rotaract Club of Lucena South officially launched Project S.P.R.O.U.T. (Smart Practices for Resilient Opportunities for Urban Transformation) at Purok 2, Brgy. Bocohan, Lucena City—a grassroots initiative centered on urban agriculture and community gardening.
In partnership with 35 members of the Sampaloc Homeowners Association, the training seminar introduced hands-on techniques in sustainable urban gardening, encouraging residents to transform vacant spaces into productive community gardens. Beyond environmental sustainability, the project aims to promote food security and provide alternative sources of income for local families.
Through interactive workshops, practical demonstrations, and community engagement, participants gained valuable knowledge on organic farming practices, composting, and crop maintenance while fostering unity and shared responsibility.
Project S.P.R.O.U.T. builds upon the club’s long-standing advocacy for agriculture-based community empowerment—mirroring the success of its Smart Organic Farming initiative at Malao-A, Calantas Elementary School in Tayabas City, where parents actively sustain vegetable gardens to help combat student malnutrition.
With every garden planted, the community grows stronger together—cultivating greener spaces and healthier futures.
