Nurturing Our Common Legacy

In the world of Rotary and Rotaract, April isn’t just about the blooming of spring; it is a month of dedicated action for our planet. Officially designated as Environment Month, April serves as a global rally point for young leaders to champion one of the 7 Areas of Focus:

Rotaract Club of Tacloban and volunteers from Sangguniang Kabataan Luntad and Baras pose together after a coastal cleanup, collecting 35.7 pounds of waste and filling seven large bags with plastic bottles, food wrappers, sachets, and other debris gathered along the shore.

Since the Rotary Foundation officially added the environment as a core focus in 2020, Rotaractors have moved from being occasional volunteers to frontline environmental advocates. This month is about more than just picking up litter – it’s about sustainable innovation and long-term community resilience.

Parent beneficiaries proudly display their newly crafted upcycled eco bags during Project ECHO by the Rotaract Club of Carmen Valley, symbolizing their commitment to caring for the environment while equipping them with practical tools for their regular visits to health facilities.

The inclusion of environmental protection as a formal area of focus recognized a truth that Rotaractors have known for years: sustainable service is impossible without a healthy planet.

Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Lucena South, and Rotaractors of the Rotaract Club of Lucena South, work side by side to collect trash and debris along the coastal area of Barangay Dalahican, embodying the spirit of bayanihan in environmental stewardship.

Environmental health is the bedrock of all other Rotary goals – clean water, disease prevention, and economic development all depend on a stable ecosystem. Environment Month is a reminder that we do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children. As Rotaractors, our energy and innovation are the catalysts needed to turn environmental concern into environmental restoration.

This April, let’s prove that we are not just people of words, but People of Action.
