For the longest time, the Rotaract Club of Butuan Highlands existed in a strange limbo. We were a group of young leaders ready to run and ready to serve the community, but we were stuck waiting for the starting gun. The chartering process was not just a logistical hurdle; it was a test of character — a test of how committed we truly were. There were many times when the delay felt frustrating, days when we questioned whether we would ever become “official.”
But this period of waiting revealed the most important principle I hold as a newly inducted Rotaractor: a certificate or official recognition does not define your capacity to do good. True service is not about having titles; it is about how passionate you are in serving others, especially those who truly need your help.

Description: On October 24, 2025, the Rotaract Club of Butuan Highlands joined the global fight for health equity by conducting a Patak Polio and feeding activity in Brgy. Limaha, Butuan City. By ensuring access to essential health services, we address inequalities that often lead to community instability.
If we had waited for that piece of paper to start building bridges in Butuan City, we would have wasted months of potential impact. Conflict, poverty, and misunderstanding do not pause while paperwork is being processed. So we made a choice — the right decision. We decided that we would not wait to be “Rotaractors” on paper to act like Rotaractors in spirit.

Description: To ensure our members are equipped to serve as effective peacebuilders, the Rotaract Club of Butuan Highlands successfully completed its Basic Orientation Seminar on January 25, 2026. This training strengthens our internal capacity to lead projects that promote harmony and understanding in our city.
We went into our communities not wearing pins but living our values, bringing service to the people. We engaged not to tick a box in a report but because we genuinely cared about those we were helping. In doing so, we learned a vital lesson about peacebuilding: peace is born from consistency, coordination, and communication.

Description: Recognizing that environmental stability is key to lasting peace, the Rotaract Club of Butuan Highlands conducted a tree-planting activity at the Taguibo River Watershed in September 2025. This initiative fosters a sense of shared responsibility for our resources, helping prevent future conflict over environmental scarcity.
Conflict often arises when communities feel forgotten or unheard. By showing up when we were still “nobody,” when we had no official name or banner to hide behind, we built something stronger than a project — we built trust. We showed our neighbors that we weren’t there for recognition; we were there for them. That foundation of trust is the bedrock of peace.

Description: On August 19, 2025, the Rotaract Club of Butuan Highlands assisted the Rotary Club of Butuan Highlands, in collaboration with local partners, in holding an Anti-Drug Awareness Seminar and Basketball Friendly in Brgy. Bayanihan. This project directs youth energy toward sports and education, steering them away from crime and fostering a peaceful, drug-free community.
Now, as we finally stand as a chartered club, the feeling is not just relief but readiness. We enter this Rotary year not as rookies but as battle-tested servants who know that unity isn’t found in slogans or words — it is found in the sweat and effort you give when no one is watching.
Although the Rotaract Club of Butuan Highlands is now officially chartered, our heart for service has been beating since day one.
