BIASONG, CEBU — Laughter echoed through classrooms and learning spaces in Barangay Biasong as children gathered for a day centered on care, creativity, and connection during Project HANDS and MINDS, a collaborative initiative led by the Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente and the Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente, together with the Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente – University of San Carlos and the Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente – University of the Visayas Chapter.

Electric fans were also distributed to improve classroom ventilation.

Designed to strengthen both educational and psychosocial support for children, the project focused on improving learning environments while nurturing emotional well-being. Through interactive activities, guided learning sessions, and child-friendly engagement, the initiative created a safe space where students could express themselves, build confidence, and rediscover joy in learning.

Game-Changing Presidents Rtn. Jason and Rtr. Ella, together with PDRR Jan, conducted an additional discussion during the site inspection.

Volunteers worked closely with teachers and community leaders to ensure that activities complemented classroom instruction and addressed the needs of the students. Children actively participated in games, creative exercises, and discussions that encouraged teamwork, curiosity, and positive social interaction.

“This project is about more than improving classrooms,” shared a Rotaract volunteer. “It’s about creating spaces where children feel safe, supported, and motivated to learn.”

Community partners and educators welcomed the initiative, noting that programs like HANDS and MINDS reinforce learning while also addressing students’ emotional and social needs—an essential component of child development, especially in communities facing resource limitations.

Pres. Ella shared the project rationale and background.

The collaboration among the four Rotaract clubs highlighted the strength of collective service. By pooling resources, time, and expertise, the clubs delivered a meaningful intervention that placed children at the center of the effort. The project reflected a shared commitment to education, mental well-being, and long-term community empowerment.

As the activity concluded, children bid farewell to the volunteers with smiles and waves, carrying with them not only learning materials but also memories of a day filled with encouragement and care. For the Rotaractors, the experience reaffirmed the belief that investing in young minds and nurturing safe learning spaces are key to building a healthier future.

Rtn. Jason Ong, the Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente’s Game-Changing President, delivered a short but inspirational message to the beneficiaries.

Through HANDS and MINDS, the Rotary and Rotaract Clubs continue to demonstrate that service rooted in empathy and collaboration can leave a lasting impact—one classroom, one child, and one caring moment at a time.
