Why do you want to lead? Do you know your purpose in leadership? What inspires you to step forward, and what draws you to choose leadership as a path for your future career? These questions echoed throughout the 5th General Membership Meeting (GMM) of the Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente – University of San Carlos (RACCF-USC), held on January 30, 2026, in Room GR452 at the University of San Carlos Downtown Campus.

Atty. Cañete delivers his talk on vocational leadership.

With the theme Vocational Leadership: Preparing Future Professionals for a Career of Service, the meeting explored the intersection of leadership, ethics, purpose, and integrity. The invited speaker, Atty. Johnson G. Cañete, former Regional Director of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regions VI and VII, shared insights on the true nature of vocational leadership—describing it as a voice that must resonate authentically within oneself.

A Rotaractor shares their reflection on vocational leadership.

He emphasized that vocation is not merely a career but a calling and commitment that creates a deeper sense of purpose in one’s professional life. Leadership, he noted, must nurture stewardship, collaboration, and empathy—qualities that promote belonging and strengthen communities. He also reflected on what it truly means to lead, highlighting the idea that “Leaders do not always know the answer, but they know when to step back and trust their peers.”

At the conclusion of the discussion, Rotaractors were invited to reflect on their understanding of vocational leadership. Collectively, they expressed that leadership is not a position of power, but an opportunity for collaboration, growth, and mutual respect.

Certificates of recognition presented to the Unite for Good officers.

The program concluded with a summary of the club’s first-semester activities, recognition of the current Unite for Good officers, and acknowledgment of this year’s article writers. The meeting ended on a warm note with shared snacks and drinks—capping off an afternoon of learning and fellowship.

Ultimately, the session left members with renewed passion for pursuing professions rooted in purpose and service. For the Rotaractors of RACCF-USC, the journey toward vocational excellence is only just beginning.
