Last November 15, 2025, the Rotaract Club of Manila, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Manila Magic and The Mind Warriors: Project Kalasag, brought Global Dignity Day to the young learners of Jose Corazon de Jesus Elementary School in Tondo, Manila.
The session centered on a โkumustahanโ with the Grade 4 students. It was a chance for them to share what makes them feel valued, loved, or seen. Facilitators listened with care, gently guiding the conversation so that every child felt heard.

Adding depth and inspiration to the program was resource speaker Ms. Ylaysha Gosiaco, a Harvard University alumna. She introduced the children to a powerful example of heroism through the story of her grandmother, 1Lt. Dr. Mercedes Cuello Lazaro Musngi โ also known as Mommy Ched. A World War II veteran and one of the countryโs quiet heroes, Mommy Chedโs courage and compassion offered the children a relatable and heartfelt portrait of dignity.

The event was made possible through the initiative of CP Charlie Chua and Rtn. Benedict Carandang of the Rotary Club of Manila Magic, whose guidance anchored the programโs flow. The celebration of Global Dignity Day was also warmly supported by Rotaract Club of Manila President Andrea Cuevas, President-Elect John Carlo de Guzman, Professional Development Director Hans Villamor, and Rtr. Ghiselle Ann Rivera. Their presence, along with members from the Rotaract Club of Polytechnic University of the Philippines and the Rotaract Club of STI College Pasay-EDSA, highlighted the spirit of collaboration at the heart of Rotaract service.

The celebration even drew international engagement, with Rtr. Will Russell from the Rotaract Club of Adelaide participating as he witnessed how Philippine Rotaractors create meaningful, community-centered experiences.

After the sessions, lunch was distributed to the students. This act of fellowship brought the morning to a warm and joyful close. The simple gesture reinforced the dayโs message: dignity is not only discussed but extended through kindness.

The Rotaract Club of Manila also extends its sincere appreciation to the faculty of Jose Corazon de Jesus Elementary School โ one of our partners in service since 2019.

Global Dignity Day may have concluded for this year, but one thing is certain โ every childโs story deserves to be heard.
