Service has always been at the heart of Rotaract. Beyond fellowship and leadership, every project is built upon the foundation of compassion and the drive to make a difference in the lives of others. On August 30, 2025, this commitment was once again lived out when the Rotaract Club of San Jose del Monte Central – Kabalikat (RAC SJDM Central–Kabalikat), in partnership with Handog ng Maria – Maria sa mga Dumagat, hosted Lingap Kabalikat, a service initiative dedicated to extending support and care to their adoptive community, the Dumagats of San Jose del Monte.
The Dumagats are one of the country’s most resilient indigenous groups, known for their deep connection to nature and their strong sense of kinship. However, like many indigenous communities, they often face systemic challenges that affect their access to education, livelihood, and even basic necessities. Recognizing these struggles, RAC SJDM Central–Kabalikat and Handog ng Maria joined forces to address some of their most immediate needs: clean drinking water, staple food supplies, cleaning materials, and footwear for children.
A Day of Joy and Service
The program began with an atmosphere of energy and excitement. Dumagat children filled the venue with laughter during the icebreaker games prepared by the volunteers. These simple activities were more than just games—they were moments of shared joy, breaking down barriers and creating genuine connections between the Rotaractors and the community.
The first wave of distribution began with slippers for the children. For many of them, these were more than just footwear; they symbolized care and dignity, protecting their small feet as they journeyed through daily life. Their delighted smiles as they tried on their new slippers served as reminders of how even the smallest gestures can carry deep meaning.
After this, everyone gathered for a shared meal. Volunteers and community members sat side by side, enjoying warm food and stories. It was a moment of communion that underscored the project’s essence—not merely about giving, but about building relationships rooted in respect and equality.
When the time came to provide for the mothers and families, the initiative addressed essential household needs. Mothers received clean drinking water, sacks of rice, and cleaning materials. These provisions, though simple, were powerful in ensuring that families had the basics to get through their daily lives with more security and comfort.
Impact Beyond Material Aid
The Dumagat community expressed heartfelt gratitude for the initiative. For them, Lingap Kabalikat was not just about the tangible items distributed, but also about the affirmation of their worth and the reassurance that they are not forgotten.
The project highlighted an important truth: service is not measured by the grandness of the act, but by the sincerity and consistency with which it is delivered. The partnership between RAC SJDM Central–Kabalikat and Handog ng Maria proved that when organizations collaborate with empathy and purpose, real change happens—not only by providing aid, but also by fostering a sense of hope and belonging.

Lingap Kabalikat is just one step in a continuing journey of partnership between RAC SJDM Central–Kabalikat, Handog ng Maria, and the Dumagats. By nurturing this relationship, both organizations hope to expand future initiatives to include educational support, sustainable livelihood programs, and health-focused projects. These will not only address immediate needs but also empower the Dumagat community to thrive in the long term.
Ultimately, this initiative is a testament to the power of collective action. It proves that when people come together with a shared vision of service, they can bridge divides, uplift marginalized groups, and spread ripples of compassion that reach far and wide.
