In a continued tradition of conducting service projects after the Club’s Induction and Handover Ceremony, the Rotaract Club of Cebu brought Hiraya (hope) and Mahika (magic) for its 10th Year of Multi-Diverse Service to San Vicente, Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, last September 29, 2024, together with the Rotaract Clubs of Iloilo South, Manila, and New Rise Kalookan North.

Despite the challenges posed by the Habagat season, Rotaractors, along with their bundles of joy, boarded chartered diving motorbancas, sponsored by the City Government of Lapu-Lapu. They navigated the strong currents of the Hilutungan Channel, enduring gusty winds and rough seas before safely arriving at Santa Rosa Port and proceeding to Barangay San Vicente.

President Rolan Ramirez (Left) and District Rotaract Representative Mark Glen Baldo (Right) lead Rotaract Club of Cebu’s Project DREAM to children of San Vicente, Olango Island, through life-opening talks and learning sessions.

Hiraya ug Mahika featured three projects in store for the children and the coastal community. Project DREAM (Dreams Realized through Educating, Advocating, and Mentoring) brought children and Rotaractors together in heartwarming discussions and games, sparking each child’s dreams – from their future careers to success in life and legacy to their respective families.

Rotaractor Russel Densing leads a group of children in a Focused Group Discussion (FGD), sharing their dreams and aspirations in life.

Project GermGuard Essentials, through the support of Rotaract Clubs of Dumaguete, Manila, Iloilo South, and New Rise Kalookan North, assembled 67 hygiene kits to supplement the needs of the kids in their basic hygiene and protection against communicable diseases. Capping off the line-up, Project TANUM (Trees Are Nature’s Ultimate Magic) bears fruit with 47 fruit-bearing trees from the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) planted along the coastal shoreline and designated areas with the support of the Barangay Officials of San Vicente.

The fellowship phase of Hiraya ug Mahika took the Rotaractors along the iconic mangrove boardwalk of Olango Island Marine Sanctuary, where a feast of local delicacies and the pristine seaside scenery awaited them. The voyage back to Hilton Port in Punta Engano brought them a stopover off the coast of Barangay Santa Rosa, diving into the bursting marine life in its depths, in jubilation over another year of a successful charter anniversary service project. If it is not another year in the books, Hiraya ug Mahika etched impact into Rotaract Club of Cebu’s culture of Fellowship through Service for Cebuano communities.
