As mental health issues arise, the Rotaract Club of San Mateo addresses the need to promote maternal mental health awareness creating safe spaces for pregnant women. It aims to understand and communicate with them better, lessening the burden once in a while through extension of support and presence as they share their journey, as pregnancy is never easy according to the mothers who participated during our event.

Mental health is indisputable and urgent. There are a lot of risk factors that can affect individuals, making them prone to mental health illnesses and problems if not addressed immediately. Pregnant women are more prone to depression, pre- and post-partum, as well as other mental health illnesses. The Rotaract Club of San Mateo established a program that aims to help pregnant women to be mentally and emotionally healthy by giving them hope for a better future for their children. We also strive to empower pregnant women by providing programs and projects to make a healthier and safer environment for them.

“We have a secret in our culture, and it’s not that birth is painful. It’s that women are strong.” – Laura Stavoe Harm
