Like an unsurrendering sail that persists to resist strong winds, the persistence of Rotary and Rotaract clubs to resist the winds of uncertainty amidst the still-ongoing pandemic stood out. While the situation has hindered many of us from doing the things we used to do, it has brought us to a different destination that allowed us to grow and discover more of our organization’s potential as a catalyst of hope in the middle of a challenging time. We realized the importance of connection and despite the distance, we have managed to build a home among our clubs and a community among our organization.
Now that things eased up, we finally have the chance to reunite with our community and make up for the couple of years that our worlds were literally paused. On June 11-12, 2022, the Rotaract and Interact Clubs of Zamboanga City hosted the District Rotaract Representative (DRR) and District Interact Representative (DIR) Visit of the Rotary International District 3850 at Kayawan Beach Resort at Sinubong, Zamboanga City. The DRR and DIR’s Visit is an annual event where representatives check in with the clubs in the district with a focus of helping them navigate through their status quo and evaluate their current performance.
The event was organized by the Rotaract and Interact Clubs of Zamboanga City Council, in cooperation with Past District Rotaract Representative, Oneil Nick Paira. It was spearheaded by the Council Chairperson, LCP Rhemjohn Miranda, together with the members of the council, followed by the actual program headed by DRR Christian Santiago and DIR John Edison Tubil. Afterwards, the Rotaract and Interact Clubs of Zamboanga City took the opportunity to hold its year-end party as one of the event’s highlights. Presentation of the Life-Changing Awards was held followed by a fun-filled fellowship. A total of 60 Rotaractors and Interactors attended the event. True enough, the pandemic was challenging, but it brought out the best in every Rotaractor and Interactor who were inspired to spread hope at a time when hope was needed the most.
